The powerful pattern of this Full Moon augurs the upcoming eclipses of August, as a significant and timely pager-turner. The Moon steps in Pluto’s path, as we are forced, one way or another, to cut the cord with the old and invite in fresh, revitalized energy. Mars, with the Sun in Cancer, stands opposite, evoking a urgent alignment, a call to action with a strong dose of necessity and inevitability behind it. Darkstar Astrology, one of my favorites, describes this Full Moon Pluto-Mars as “a black rod of iron.” Yes, it’s a timely opportunity to strengthen our backbones, assert our will and willingness, and take charge of what we need to do. It can be easy or harder depending on our willingness to step up. Feel the energy and support that is there for you.

Jupiter in Libra adds the feel of a tipping point and the challenge of maintaining our balance and equilibrium. The whole Full Moon pattern heads toward a dynamic square with game-changer Uranus. Expect the unexpected, as strong winds of change take you in new directions. This could be an exciting adventure! It’s as if we have been getting ready for a journey into new lands, and now cast off on the rising tide and fresh winds. It may not be evident that the revitalization is actually to come. Part of the challenge is to be open to let it come, let it come, without defining how we feel it “should” happen. If delay the inevitable, the signals may get stronger and feel harsher. Pluto is not a “bad guy,” but does impose the time/space pace of destiny and evolution, collective and personal. Listen to your intuition, trust your higher self—be that radical!

I’ve found myself humming that classic, post-apocalyptic favorite by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young:
“If you smile at me, I will understand,
’cause that is something everybody everywhere does in the same language…
Wooden Ships on the water, very free and easy,
Easy you know the way it’s supposed to be
Talkin’ ’bout very free and easy……
And it’s a fair wind
Blowin’ warm out of the south over my shoulder
Guess I’ll set a course and go.”

Those of us who hold a vision a renewed, kinder world are feeling that wind blowing warm, even amidst the current chaos. This Sixties song addressed the current chaos included these prescient lyrics,
“Horror grips us as we watch you die
All we can do is echo your anguished cries
Stare as all human feelings die.
We are leaving, you don’t need us.”

The song tells the story of pioneers leaving to find a better world, “far away where we might laugh again.” We can only get there from the inside-out. Turning our attention from the global drama to our personal transformation, let’s incorporate those lyrics into our inner process under this Full Moon, answering the call to leave behind habits, activities, and baggage that we no longer need. Some of us have been getting compelling, no-nonsense signals. Cut the cord on those attachments and automatic habits you know are not good for you. To shine the light of consciousness and intention on thoughtless, subconscious patterns is empowering, clarifying and Self-nurturing. Gentleness and kindness, to ourselves as well as others, wear away defensiveness and resistance, like water on stone. When facing decisions, take care that you are making them for the right reasons and from your heart.

A basic choice in life is whether we come from fear or from love. It’s not always a clear-cut path as we contend with a fierce storm that tends to evoke a dark cloud of anxiety and confusion. As we turn inside and hold on to our spiritual anchor, we find a harbor of safety, a source for help and support and the grace of love. A big lesson of Cancer is to ask for what we need, even as we step up to the Capricorn agenda to take responsibility for our state of being.

To do so is more of a contribution to the rise in collective consciousness than we may credit. We can then pick up that fresh breeze and head out into new territory that is bound to make our lives better. We can’t count on anyone to do this for us. We take responsibility here. It can be easier than we may believe, if we set our sails cleanly and confidently. Clear the decks for the upcoming eclipses. Polish up your shine. In other words, Just Do It!
