The Cancer New Moon tucks into the Sun’s light, receiving a new dose of the Life Force and lighting up inner, hidden landscapes. Sleep may be elusive, as there is much to reflect on. Awake or asleep, dreams may be vibrant and especially meaningful.

Security and belonging are basic needs that are on our minds and deeply yearned for from our hearts, personally, nationally and collectively. Though we need each other in this co-creative world, we need to be as self-sufficient as possible rather than overly depend on others. What can you give in return when you receive help? Sometimes a simple, heartfelt thank-you is enough. Give back later in some way when you can. Pay it forward when you are able. A power imbalance comes with a price that we can no longer afford to pay. Consider that statement in light of the situation in Greece. Save and conserve whatever you can. Use your resources well. Consider what you are bringing to the table. What are you good at? What do you enjoy the most? When you are feeling the most exciting energy and timelessness, what is it that you are doing?

Sun and Moon are joined in 24 degrees Cancer. MERCURY and MARS are also joined in Cancer, at 14 degrees. PLUTO is exactly opposite, in 14 Capricorn. This is a powerful dynamic, indicating Big News, Necessity and Action. We leave our comfort zone that has become too uncomfortable. We cast off on uncharted seas to seek fertile ground that will sustain us over time. Words are spoken that change history. In some way, developments over the course of this month cut the cord with what has come before. The compelling urge is for GROWTH.

NEW HORIZONS SPACECRAFT
is bringing our collective attention closer to PLUTO as we’ve ever been—on July 14. New Horizons indeed! New photos of its surface are already coming out. It has a feature that is being called the Whale! Perhaps there will be a reason to yet again reclassify what Pluto we call Pluto. This may be part of the Big News. Of course Pluto doesn’t care what we call it. Pluto will do what Pluto does. Mythically he is the god of death and rebirth. And here we are, at the threshold of Pluto’s doorway. What does it mean? We’re about to find out.
VENUS RETROGRADE, July 25
We’ve still got the wonder-full pairing of VENUS-JUPITER in the sunset sky. This lovely, benevolent and powerful melding of Love and Wisdom promotes harmony and promising opportunities. Feel the love shining from your heart, stirring the creative juices. The imminent VENUS RETROGRADE cycle, starting July 25, is a juicy, mythically enticing one!
In this vibrant July with the lovely VENUS-JUPITER conjunction still hanging above the sunset, VENUS soon reaches the GATEWAY of the SPHINX, the cusp of Leo-Virgo, on the 18th of this month, pausing there for 13 days while she turns around, officially retrograde on the 25th. JUPITER crosses the same threshold on August 11. VENUS will return one more time after the full retrograde circle, on October 8th, now as the Morning Star, the harbinger.
With a mysterious smile, the Sphinx asks obscure questions that make us reconsider what is meaningful and true.
The goddess VENUS does the same during her retrograde period, July 25 – September 6. She invites us get in touch with the emotional intelligence of our hearts, to appreciate more fully the richness in our lives. Especially when retrograde, she brings us back to our primary relationship: our relationship with ourselves, allowing us to open more authentically and truly to others. It is a good time to deeply explore our feminine self, especially the Venus factor that contributes to our fulfillment. I’ll be writing more on the Venus retrograde cycle as we continue on this particular journey of the goddess to the underworld. Venus retrogrades in this Virgo-Leo section of the sky every eight years. Cast your memory back to summer of 2007, 1999, 1991, 1983, 1975, 1967, 1959, 1951, etc. You might notice repeating themes of what is going on for you now. This will be the last Venus retrograde cycle, after 120 years, that pauses and turns around in the sign of Virgo. In 2023 Venus will twirl around at the far edge of Leo. This is a potent cusp. Some profound messages are coming forth.
This particular Venus retrograde cycle is compelling for many reasons beyond conveying in this COSMIC NEWS. Stay tuned. This Venus cycle dances with SATURN, back in SCORPIO until September, tapping a deep layer that lay fallow under the surface from last December until now. Take the temperature of your passions, of what is stirring deep in your heart. Can you dive deep enough to find an inner spring of regeneration and motivation to push forward to the surface of your life, to manifest in the material world? This is a last chance (for now) to let go of what no longer feels like something we can spend time on without feeling deadened. We confront and resolve resistances and doubts that have been holding us back. With Saturn challenging the glory of Venus and Jupiter to come into fuller manifestation, we are called to free up our creative capacity for renewal and invention. Are you almost ready to seek out your next great adventure? Can you entertain wild ideas, imagine an enticing goal, a life different and more enriching than you are experiencing now? What gets in the way? How daring and courageous do you feel?
Weak, co-dependent and unbalanced RELATIONSHIPS are likely to break apart under the strain. It’s time for personal growth and relationships must grow to make room. People that hold us back are just not good for us any more. If certain persons make us feel badly, unworthy, or whatever other negative emotions you want to name, then we need to move on. One major theme of this Moon cycle and, indeed, this whole summer with Venus retrograde, is to discern and turn negative thoughts and feelings into positives. Affirmations are helpful for the mind. Our emotional body calls on the intelligence of the heart. Loving and honoring yourself is a key to the heart. As we unlock our hearts’ loving grace, we commune more tenderly with others, touching heart to heart. Does this sound like Truth in Love, Jupiter-Venus? What is true for you and for me? How can we share on that level?
This New Moon pattern makes a grand triangle in water, releasing strong currents of feeling, as a rush of rivers and streams, waterfalls and rains merges into the collective ocean: caring, nurturing, healing, forgiveness, compassion, resilience, Will. Check your meter on a scale of 1-10 in relation to Willfullness vs Willingness. We are each experience some challenge of cleansing, and washing away emotional dirt and detritus. We are detoxifying the waters of the subtle body, pulling out of polluted fields of energy. We don’t have to go there. Our responsibility is to recycle and regenerate vibrational leftovers into a new, vibrant dynamic.
Can we make it fun and joyful? That’s the ticket! Venus calls us into our hearts to find a way to play with the stuff of Life in a creative spirit. What fills your heart with joy?
