The Deep Earth Full Moon is goddess-infused under the bright light of this Scorpio Full Moon, as it takes us a deep dive into hidden, subterranean, subatomic realms.
A noteworthy news article this week reported on a record-breaking submarine dive almost 7 miles down into the Pacific Ocean’s Mariana Trench. Heading into the deepest known point in the Earth’s seabed, called Challenger Deep, Victor Vescovo discovered new sea creatures along with a plastic bag and candy wrappers. That’s an environmental wake-up call, along with many more mind-blowing messages on many fronts coming our way this month. The Scorpio Moon will elicit secrets, such as this one in the deepest waters beneath the surface. What more hard evidence will be unearthed in earth sign Taurus?
The Sun and Mercury combo reflected by this Full Moon is aligned with the star Algol, which marks the penetrating and paralyzing Eye of Medusa at 26+ Taurus. This Eye:
“perceives with an objectivity like that of nature itself and our dreams, boring into the soul to find the naked truth, to see reality beneath all its myriad forms and the illusions and defenses it displays,” as Jungian psychology Sylvia Perera writes in Descent to the Goddess.
Sometimes this star has been called Lilith.
Another Lilith, the Black Moon, is now in sea sign Pisces, at its most alluring and mysterious, evocative of mermaids, seductive songs of the sirens and, attuned with Neptune as it is, to mystical poems of love and longing, such as this one by Mirabai:
“My heart goes into You
As the polish goes into the gold.
As the lotus lives in its water,
I live in You.
Like the bird
That gazes all night
At the passing moon,
I have lost myself dwelling in You.”
This calls for a musical interlude. Here is my suggestion for this Full Moon playlist. Close your eyes and hear ‘Les Sirenes’ by brilliant French composer Lili Boulanger, who took her name from Lilith and passed it on to asteroid Lilith #1181.
Neptune is strong in its own sign of Pisces. We are half way through this 14-year passage, experienced by no one presently living on Earth (unless you are 160 years old). Deception is rampant and even more subtle than usual under the influence of Black Moon Lilith. We human beings are invited into the essential spiritual field of Oneness, to search for the truth of our own lives, from our hearts, creating a new way of living from the inside out, finding a vision we can live with, be inspired by and share. Along the way we are faced with misperceptions, self-deceptions, obfuscations and paranoia that clouds our view. We feel our way with a level of faith that is personally meaningful in some exquisite language, like the “Inarticulate Speech of the Heart,” in wordless musical interlude by Van Morrison. If you enjoy that one, go on with Morrison’s “Into the Mystic.”
Venus is also strong in it own sign, just entering Taurus on the 15th. It is now joined with the wild and radical Awakener Uranus in early Taurus. As we become more aware of the beauty and joy of Gaia Earth, we tune into more deep earth inspiration and the glory thereof. First, we need to work through personal emotional issues and free ourselves from old conditioning that caused lack of self worth. Our values are being radically questioned, as we seek richer quality in our lifestyles, beyond what is standard in our current culture. Revolutions around the globe, with the people rising up to challenge the status quo, controlling government impositions. We are in a different time now, and are called to attend to basics of food, shelter and clothing. We seek a good life on our own terms. How are we cooperating with Earth to enjoy the “Simple Gifts,” of the Shaker poem, a good suggestion for the playlist.
Or we can look to something wild and radical and wonderful and leading edge like Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring,” in its day;
or contemporary Pink Floyd’s “Echoes” from “Live at Pompeii,”
that adds in sea song as well.
This Full Scorpio Moon fully supports the ongoing partnership of the two heavy weight planets, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, relentlessly digging up dirt from deep down, with unhealed history that needs to be healed through processing and composting. The soil needs to be revitalized the soil healthy growth. The necessity is urgent, necessary and inevitable, as we root out poisonous weeds of hopelessness, helplessness and powerlessness under corrupt, lawless and controlling governments.
In relation to the collective global chaos we are plunged into during this process, it is interesting to note that the last time Pluto was in Capricorn was 1762-1778. The United States, “born” in 1776, is experiencing its first Pluto return, a 248-year cycle. This return phase spans 2008-2024, describingthe current upheaval and national identity crisis. To move forward we can look back to our foundations and history, how we got off-track and how to honor all citizens.
Again, this is a global transformation. We are each an integral part of this process of deconstruction and redesign. How do we live together and govern ourselves? What are the principles that guide us? What do we stand for? Each of us is called to take responsibility. This is a huge moment, punctuated by Saturn’s rigorous timing. Let’s get to it.
We need strong music with a deep beat for this one! “Wolf Totem” by The HU, a Mongolian band fusing rock music with traditional instruments and throat singing. Powerful!
Such are the times we live in. Let’s live them to the full under this Full Moon, one of the most intense of the year in rather intense times. Engage the courage of your spiritual warrior, guided by the beauty and love in each moment.
Breaking News!
Another powerful goddess in the Kuiper Belt!
My go-to Galactic Astrologer, Philip Sedgwick, recently sent out a notice about a newly named Kuiper Belt Object. In my Planetary Gods & Goddesses Coloring Book, I bemoaned that, among all of the new global creator deities giving their names to planetoids in the new realm of our solar system, there was none from Africa.
Well now there is!
Let’s welcome Gǃkúnǁʼhòmdímà, from the Jul-hoan people of Namibia,
discovered October 19, 2007, and now at 11 Gemini 46, Daunting to pronounce (yes, with an African click) the wikipedia page gives an audio rendition which sounds something like ‘gng click-kum-dima’.
She is a beautiful aardvark girl, who can also take the form of a python or an elephant. She defends her people and punishes wrongdoers (several KBOs seem to do so), using the spiny Devil’s thorn, a cloud of hail, or her magical oryx horn. Don’t mess with her!
The aardvark means “earth-pig,” a long-tongued, termite-eating, nocturnal animal native to Africa, the only living species of the prehistoric Tubulidentata family. A nice addition to our Uranus in Taurus animal gallery, along with the Musk Ox.
Googling aardvark girl brings some interesting references, including this
Girl Scout Aardvark Song.
Enjoy!
