FULL MOON ECLIPSE at 16 LIBRA-ARIES,
October 8, 5:50am EDT, 2:50am PDT, 10:50am GMD
This Full Moon is a “wow!” total eclipse. Most of Asia, across the Pacific and the Americas will see at least part of the eclipse. We’ll all feel it. In the midst of its intensity is a really good feeling of vitality and energy. Make it so in your life. Whatever or whoever is not feeling in tune with you, free yourself and make a break.
The NODES of the MOON, which pinpoint eclipse locations through the signs, indicate the direction of destiny. There is big movement on hand, not completely unlike the Full Moon last month, but with fuller, grander impact. Last month Mercury was hanging around the North Node, bringing people together and initiating important conversations. Now VENUS does the same, invisibly close to the Sun and in her own sign, creating a feeling of harmony, if we seek it, like that 1960s song: “Everybody get together, try to love one another right now.” The potential is quite extraordinary, especially with Uranus (invisibly) accompanying the Moon. This is a big wake-up call, with the Full Moon plugged squarely into the overarching Pluto-Uranus Square, a sure indication that “the times they are a’changin.” Plenty of reminders of the SIXTIES abound.
This is the reverse of the total eclipse of last April, with its crescendo of global fireworks and awakening. The presence of Venus—central in both eclipses this month—brings forth love, beauty and, yes, economic issues up front and central. Change is afoot. Honoring the Venusian vibration amidst the complex astrological patterns, engagement in some artistic medium that appeals can be very therapeutic. A most inspiring sign is the Moon’s participation in a grand trine of planets in fire signs. There is a lot of motivation for change, signaling a great day for demonstrations or big gatherings that feature the arts and innovative technologies. Such gatherings have already been happening in places in the world: the U.S.A., Scotland, Catalonia, Hong Kong. No mistaking that this is a revolutionary time, with lots of dynamism behind it. Potential warnings include a possibility of storms, and to take care not go over the top for the sake of shock value. Consider this eclipse a kind of holiday and celebrate appropriately as you feel.
ALCHEMICAL RESONANCE
Meanwhile, MERCURY IS RETROGRADE! Yes, again. Many people feel it in advance, especially those whose charts are especially touched by the position of the retrograde circle, running between 16 LIBRA to 2 SCORPIO. Is it a cosmic coincidence that this month’s eclipses are at 16 Aries-Libra and 1 degree Scorpio? No, not a coincidence, more like an exquisite demonstration of cosmic choreography.
On October 4, MERCURY turned retrograde at 2 Scorpio, the very position of this month’s (partial) solar eclipse on October 23-24.
Mercury turns direct just after that eclipse, on October 25th, at 17 Libra, essentially at the position of this total eclipse. It’s an interesting back-and-forth, 2-step dance. VENUS is in the heart of that solar eclipse later this month, erotically yummy like a triple dark-chocolate truffle with a raspberry filling. More on this next time. For now, to point out the alchemical choreography, as MERCURY reweaves threads of connectivity, helping to unravel knots of undesirable or weakened threads that undermine the creative life force that surges toward growth and vibrancy. Let’s end by imagine a fusion of Libra’s SCALES and the SCORPION.
Do you know that two of the main stars of Libra used to be the claws of the Scorpion? Yes, indeed. My two favorite star names are Zubenelgenubi (brother of ObiwanKenobi?) and Zubeneschemali. Aren’t these wonderful names? In Arabic they refer to the northernmost and southernmost Claws of the Scorpion, once imagined to be holding an oil lamp or incense burner, that would purify the Sun, Moon or any planet that passed through. Mercury and the Venusian eclipses open this gateway to purification and release. Another image is that of Ma’at, the Egyptian goddess of wisdom and divine order. She holds the old-fashioned Scales with the two pans. From her headdress, she draws out the Feather of Truth and places it on one side of the Scales; on the other, your heart or soul. Is your heart as light and true as the Feather?
We have this month to contemplate such core questions and feel our answers arise from deep inside.
