Depth Astrology, AstroMythology & the Cosmic Feminine

The Libra New Moon on October 6 is exactly conjunct Mars. The Red Planet stays close to the Sun through October. Pluto turns forward right on this New Moon, indicating a surge forward deep in the collective ground swell. Three more planets—Saturn, Jupiter and Mercury—all turn direct before the next Full Moon, like a series of green lights. Mercury, retrograde in Libra until the 18th, gives us time to go back over what has been happening and deliberate over choices that will carry us forward. On All Hallows weekend, Mars, slower than the Sun, follows the Sun’s October 23 entry into Scorpio. The energy intensifies with a powerful erotic charge. We will feel the dramatic change of dynamic.

Red Flower, This photo by artist Susan Wahlrab, shows the red vitality of Mars, with that strong yellow, sunlike heart.

This Martian New Moon with Mercury retrograde centers on Libran considerations— weighing, comparing, contrasting, gathering the opinions of others, taking it all in.
While reading the Sabian Symbol, let’s include Mars in our impressions of this image for the New Moon degree.
14 Libra— In the Heat of the Noon, a Man Takes a Siesta.
This sure sounds like one way to experience Mercury retrograde! —take a break from the frey. Mars, though an action planet, is not entirely sure what it wants to do yet. It may need to take a bit of a siesta as well, while we consult our inner guidance. Mercury retrograde supports this inner questioning. There are a lot of considerations to take into account under a Libran New Moon. Libra is an air sign, offering perspective. Sometimes that it from another person’s point or view or opinion of the situation.

Let’s keep our listening ears open for how any information resonates with what we know deep inside. Don’t argue with yourself— or anyone else if you can help it. Some arguments are likely in this polarized time. Mars can be triggered, especially if it is trying to accommodate other people, feeling frustrated or fearful, or having a hard time figuring out what to do. Anger is a symptom of a hampered Mars. Anger can be positively channeled into enthusiasm, with encouragement from Mars to “go for it!”

This New Moon may accentuate the social polarization, bringing us close to the elastic band snapping. Let’s use this Mercury cycle to make good choices that bring forth harmony in any situation. Take time to understand the other point of view even if it feels foreign to you. You don’t have to agree, but can we agree to disagree? That’s been a challenge lately. Mercury retrograded in square to Pluto, stirring up a lot of fear.

Mercury’s New Moon suggestion:
Choose to let go of fearful thoughts, banish them as completely as you can. Fear can be lethal. This Martial New Moon makes that a mission. Each choice you make can be empowering or disempowering. Be vigilant about watching your state of mind, the thoughts that may feel like they are ‘running you’. This may be the ‘fear-porn,’ from Pluto’s collective dark side.

Many people are afraid of viewpoints opposed to their own. There is, most often, an unconscious sense that opening to it would ignite a paradigm shift they fear. Fear of the unknown that is common. It takes faith, confidence, trust or other such psycho-spiritual strengths not to be so. It is quite clear that the proverbial bridge has burned behind us; there really is nowhere else to go but forward. A new paradigm beckons and feels inevitable. Why be fearful? Why not be excited?

Years ago, through my own experience, I discovered that excitement is what can underlie anxiety. These emotions are two sides of the same coin. Let’s go for the excitement! New discoveries! The Star Trek mission: “Space, the final frontier: To explore strange, new worlds; To seek out new life and new civilizations; To boldly go where no [hu]man has gone before…”
So Aries!

Chiron in Aries, opposite this New Moon, calls for the Spiritual Warrior inside you to Stand strong, centered in integrity, true to yourself. The Fearless Warrior. Paradigm shift ahoy!
I wrote this for the last New Moon, a month ago, when Mercury was opposing Chiron in early September:
Especially keep your mind alert to new ideas and information that changes the playing field, evoking surprising synchronicities that affirm you are on track (Mercury opposite Chiron).
This New Moon pings into that first Mercury/ Chiron opposition.
Mercury retrogrades back to that point, sustaining another opposition to Chiron for a good week or more during its turn forward on the 18th. (Jupiter turns forward that same day!) Something is shifting in a profoundly healing way from October 15-22. Chiron can evoke a crisis moment that signals an imminent change of status. Brain cells are lighting up and new neural pathways are being opened to reveal new ways forward. “Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket!”

Venus is just crossing the line into Sagittarius, adding an upbeat note of optimism at least, a surge of Joy at best! As ruler of Libra, Venus has a lot of sway over this Moon cycle. I’m glad she has moved into visionary Sagittarius, the sign of the Truth Seeker. Venus immediately conjuncts the South Node, for (potentially) a big dose of Truth and Revelations.

And there is Uranus over in Taurus, with some practical suggestions that may not make rational sense. Uranus is zapping this New Moon/Mars with a glancing quincunx, complexicating the Balance of the Scales beyond ideas into grounded awareness. Our earth bodies can feel our planet quaking and erupting with higher frequencies incoming. We are equally unsettled. The Radical Awakener invites us to walk our talk to New Earth, even now evolving under our feet for those that can sense it. What does your Earth body want to experience? Taurus rules the throat and the voice. Advice from Uranus on this New Moon:
“Find your true voice and sing, sing, sing joyful noises unto the Lord, all ye lands!” Your whole body is your instrument. Stretch out. Breathe deeply. Give voice to your Truth from the souls/soles of your feet, each note, each word made yours from the beauty of your heart and the power in your gut, in intricate, nuanced harmonies in honor of aesthetic Libra.

Neptune in Pisces also sidesteps the rational: in favor of the spiritual. The cosmic fluidity of Neptune can flow into deep spaces and emerge where least looked for, dispensing ‘miracles’ by allowing the Divine to intercede in our choices, superseding our limiting ideas. A conversation with your angels, meditation, prayer or other divine communion may offer the best advice. Neptune sends in the Violet Flame of Compassion to wash away static in any encounter, to allow a downpour of Holy Grace.

Pluto, like a powerful angel of Revitalization and Recovery, seeks Restoration of the Earth’s original cosmic blueprint.
According to Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, the original vision of Earth arose in the mind of the Great Spirit inspired by the spontaneous song of an angelic choir. In this, his pre-history of Middle-earth, we find Star Lady Varda as one of the highest archangelic light beings who came down to manifest the Creator’s vision. Varda has recently joined our solar system in the newly discovered Kuiper Belt. (A first audio ‘take’ on Varda is offered in the Quantum Solar System section)

Varda was also known as Tintalle, the Star Kindler, and Elentari, Queen of Stars. From The Silmarillion:
“Too great is her beauty to be declared in the words of Men or Elves; for the light of Iluvatar lives still in her face. In light is her power and her joy…Of all the Great Ones who dwell in this world the Elves hold Varda most in reverence and love. Elbereth they name her, and they call upon her name out of the shadows of Middle-earth, and uplift it in song at the rising of the stars.”

Varda has been very much on my mind and in my heart since she swept in through the 23-degree Sagittarian Total Solar Eclipse in December last year to rekindle the light of Creator’s original vision of Earth in our imaginations. We are beginning to remember this vision into our world now. Varda is a guiding light as we continue to move through the darkness of Pluto’s underland, eventually to arise from the ashes of the crumbling matrix of the old system into the dawning of a new era.

We head full steam into the thickest part of this year
toward yet another December grand finale
to yet another intense, world-changing year!
